Meryl Marshall is a past Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, an organization dedicated to promoting creativity, diversity, innovation and excellence in the advancement of the telecommunications arts and sciences.

During her first term as Chairman, the Academy celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Emmy Awards on NBC, negotiated a four year network license for the Primetime Emmys, cybercast both the Creative Arts and the Primetime Awards, secured a broadcast deal for the Creative Arts Awards and the Hall of Fame ceremony, obtained a Getty Educational Trust grant for the development of a "Conceptual Framework for Learning and Teaching through the Art of Television", cosponsored an industry dialogue entitled "Through the Eyes of Children" with the Chairman of the FCC and initiated long term planning procedures and strategies for the Board of Governors.

Current initiatives include the creation of S.T.A.R.T. Communications and the Family Screening Events which use television to develop media literacy. These programs encourage parents and teachers to use television as a teaching tool to explore social issues and popular culture. In addition Marshall is guiding the Academy in the incorporation of interactive technology and creative content professionals into the converging media environment.

An active ATAS member since 1982, she was elected to three terms as Treasurer, two terms as Governor of the Production Executives Peer Group and was the chair of numerous committees. She is also a member of the ATAS Foundation Board of Directors.

Marshall is the President of Two Oceans Entertainment Group, an independent production company which creates, sells and produces original television programming. The Two Oceans production slate includes a reality series for Discovery Kids several television movies, specials, an international entertainment magazine series and thirty nine episodes of the award winning, primetime, animated series HAPPILY EVER AFTER: FAIRY TALES FOR EVERY CHILD for HBO.

Marshall began her entertainment career as Senior Counsel for NBC. Following promotions at NBC from Director of Program and Talent Contracts to Vice President of Compliance and Practices, she became a member of the NBC West Coast Senior Executive Management Committee.

To transfer her business skills to the creative aspect of the television industry in 1988 Marshall left NBC and joined Group W Productions as Vice President of Development and Production. During her tenure she launched several series, including TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. Marshall later become Senior Vice President of FuturImages, a joint venture between Westinghouse Broadcasting and TeleImages (France). She formed Two Oceans Entertainment Group in 1992.

As a public speaker, Marshall has addressed; the Digital Media Universe Conference (the future of television), Getty Educational Trust (virtual reality as a teaching tool and kids congress on art), the Commission on the Status of Women - San Francisco (media: promoting positive role models for women), Leadership California (leadership in the 21st century), Children NOW (media images of race & class), the North American National Broadcasters Association (program content & international cooperation), the Association of Junior Leagues International (diversity & multiculturalism), California Humanities Association (television as a teaching tool) and the 1998 Youth Arts and Education Conference (personal development through arts education), the American Assembly (television as an art form), and the UCLA Anderson School Economic Forecast Group (Bringing New Vision to Television).

Marshall is a member of the 1998-99 class of Senior Fellows of the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research. She has lectured at UCLA, Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management and the University of Texas. Marshall has moderated and participated on panels sponsored by Aspen Institute, the International Documentary Association, Prix Italia, Arts Inc. Leadership America and the National Association of Television Program Executives.

Meryl Marshall is licensed to practice law in the State of California and admitted before the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
